Nongpok Torban/Western Riverfront Development Phase I:

The initial phase along the Imphal River’s western bank from Sanjenthong to Nongpok Thong (covering a distance of 680m) has turned a neglected stretch into a landscaped public space. Walkways, seating, dedicated cycle track, open gym and greenery now draw people from all walks of life, enhancing the area’s appeal and linking it to a historic fort nearby.

Nongpok Thong also known as Kangla Nongpok Thong is the Eastern Gate Bridge of the Kangla Fort in Imphal that holds historical and cultural significance as part of the city's ancient heritage. The erstwhile historic bridge dismantled by the British post Anglo-Manipuri War, has been reconstructed as a replica of the original bridge under the Smart Cities Mission. At the basement of the bridge, the original underground abutment uncovered during excavations, is preserved for public viewing and study. Radiocarbon dating suggested that the abutment is likely to be of 1683 A.D. and 1936 A.D.

The App-Based Public Bicycle Sharing of Imphal Smart City, YAANA-Smart Bicycle Sharing has been transforming urban mobility in Imphal with its smart and cost friendly features. The initiative features 100 GPS-enabled cycles stationed across 20 points at key locations inside the city.

Development of 500 TPD capacity Legacy Waste Processing Plant at Lamdeng:

The 500 TPD Legacy Waste Processing Plant at Lamdeng is a significant step towards sustainable waste management. The facility focuses on minimising environmental impact while improving public health by focusing on resource recovery, recycling, reduction of greenhouse gases emission and community well-being. 1(One) lakh tonne of legacy waste is processed at SWM Plant at Lamdeng.

The construction of a basement two-wheeler parking at Luxmi Market aims to ease traffic and pedestrian congestion, ensuring a seamless shopping experience.

Thangal Lambi (Development of Mall Road) Phase –I:

Thangal Lambi is a transformative project designed to celebrate the rich art and cultural heritage of the state while promoting a dynamic urban space. Prioritizing accessibility for pedestrians of all ages and abilities, this pedestrian-friendly zone enhances mobility, boosting local commerce and creating a lively atmosphere for shopping and leisure. The development features the creation of a city square and plaza, offering a dynamic gathering space that supports tourism and invites visitors to immerse themselves in the charm and history of this iconic destination.

Redevelopment of Indira Park:

Indira Park is the only children park in the heart of Imphal City. A once-overlooked park near a key government building now features upgraded pathways, lighting, and recreational spots, serving as a community gathering point.

Augmentation Of Municipal Solid Waste Management Equipment:

Upgraded equipment—including twin bins, compactors, and de-silting machines—has enhanced waste collection efficiency, reduced landfill volume, and improved recycling rates. This initiative plays a crucial role in curbing pollution, promoting sustainability, and safeguarding public health, marking a vital step toward a smarter, cleaner Imphal.

Kangla Battery Vehicle 3 Nos. 14-Seater And 3 Nos. 6-Seater:

The introduction of six battery-operated vehicles (three 14-seaters and three 6-seaters) offers visitors a green way to explore Kangla, promoting sustainable urban transport while preserving the site's heritage. These zero-emission vehicles reduce air pollution and support Imphal’s shift toward eco-conscious mobility.

Renovation of Drainage at Thangal Bazar:

The renovation of Drainage at Thangal Bazar has provided efficient drainage system to ensure safe and hygienic living condition. This renovation has converted the once kachcha drain to RCC drain for which will lead to safety for pedestrian and the heavy clogging of sludge and water logging problem will also be solved.

4 & 2-wheeler parking at Ima Keithel 1 & 3:

Construction of 4 and 2-wheeler parking at the basement of Ima Keithel 1 & 3 is completed and it will now provide the much-needed parking space for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers. This parking area will alleviate congestion and enhance traffic flow. It will also improve urban development initiative goals and support local businesses.

Development of Security Kiosk & Toilet Block at Kangla Nongpok Torban Phase -I:

Construction of Security Kiosk and Toilet Block can contribute to hygienic sanitation and overall safety and security of the area. This construction provides improved public facilities.


These efforts have increased public awareness of the Smart City vision, earning appreciation for their focus on aesthetics and utility. Yet, their limited scope sparks debate—many residents hope for wider-reaching improvements beyond central zones.
